TATRANSKÁ LOMNICA

Tatranska Lomnica is one of the biggest and nicest settlements in the area of High Tatras. It is situated 6 km to the east from Starý Smokovec, at the foothill of Lomnický štít.
At the beginning the settlement consisted of state owned hunters cabin and some private manor houses. Due to the fact this locality belonged to Veľká Lomnica, it was given the name Tatranská Lomnica. In the year 1893 Hotel Lomnica was built, in that times the biggest hotel in High Tatras, later remarkable Kúpeľný Dom with pool and hydrotherapy and in the year 1905 representative Grandhotel, which was renamed to Grandhotel Praha in 1919. The development of Tatranská Lomnica was slowed down by new rental conditions, which the state started to apply in 1908.
In the period between the World wars a lot of family pensions and private residences in Tatranská Lomnica were built. An exception was building of high-density convalescent home Morava After the suspension cableway to Skalnaté pleso and Lomnický štít has been built (1937 -1940), the settlement has been given its main tourist attraction, which enhanced the resort again to the international level.
After 1989 the accommodation and gastronomy services in Tatranská Lomnica started to change rapidly. Older pensions were reconstructed, new were built. Constantly grow new devices for sport and recreation activities - pools, tennis courts, minigolf, fitness centers, casinos, rentals of sport equipment, archery, etc. In winter it is ice pool, ski slopes of different difficulties, tracks for cross country skiing, ski schools, etc. In Tatranská Lomnica you can visit not only Museum of TANAP (High Tatras National Park), but also a unique exposition of tatra nature. Good road, railway and bus connections enable shorter as well as longer trips to outskirts.
