Cable car trip to Skalnaté pleso

Visit the most popular tourist destination – Skalnaté pleso, located at the altitude of 1,751 metres. An orange 6-seater chairlift runs from the lower station in Tatranská Lomnica to the Štart mid-station, from where a new, modern 15-seater gondola continues up to Skalnaté pleso. The area around the tarn is perfect for walks or hikes. Nearby, at the altitude of 1,786 metres, you can find an astronomical and meteorological observatory. The observatory was founded in 1943, when its first observations were made. It also houses a planetarium. You can relax and soak up the sun at one of the highest-altitude restaurants in the High Tatras – Skalnaté pleso restaurant, whose sunny terrace offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding rocky peaks or Slovakia's steepest ski piste – Lomnické sedlo (saddle).

TIP: To get to Skalnaté pleso, take a chairlift from Tatranská Lomnica to the Štart mid-station, and then the gondola cable car from the mid-station to Skalnaté pleso, or follow a green-marked hiking trail from Tatranská Lomnica, a red-marked Tatra aerial trail from Zamkovský’s chalet or a red-marked Tatra aerial trail from the Chalet at Zelené pleso (tarn).

Marmot rock

At Skalnaté pleso, there is a unique children's playground with views of the stunning mountain scenery. It is dominated by a large colourful structure resembling a marmot on a rock, which not only looks attractive but also offers plenty of fun for children. Kids can enjoy a slide or a tunnel, both part of the modern, nature-inspired design. The playground is located below the cable car, adding to the overall experience when making a trip to the High Tatras. The Marmot rock is the perfect spot for families with children to relax.
